Can You Bring Perfume on a Plane? Know Whether TSA Rules Allow

Perfume is not just a scent; it's your personality expression that you cannot compromise with in any way. And since it's your first time travelling by air, we can better understand how curious you are to know, “Can You Bring Perfume on a Plane?” As per the TSA rules, you are free to bring your favourite fragrance on a plane in both checked-in baggage and carry-on baggage, but under certain conditions that we have explained below.

TSA Guidelines: How Can You Bring Perfume on a Plane?

Though TSA Rules allow you to bring your favorite smell of perfume, still impactful to restrict you from taking scent on a plane in any of your baggage at the last-minute, at the airport, whether carry-on or luggage, if not follow the guidelines as briefed below.

Carry-on Baggage:

You can carry multiple bottles, which might not exceed the size limited to  100ml (3.4oz). Suppose you have a 150ml bottle half filled with 50 ml of perfume in your bag, a TSA officer will not allow you to take that container with you on a plane. In short, TSA rules do not focus on the quantity of liquid inside, but rather pay attention to the container’s labelled capacity. So, be aware of the size before carrying them in your bag on board in order last-minute discount.

Tip: Make sure you seal the perfume bottle in a quart-size bag and place it above all the belongings in your cabin bag, so that it will be convenient for you to showcase it to TSA officers during security checks if required.

Checked-in Baggage

The TSA rules allow larger bottles limited to 2 kg (70 ounces) or 2 L (68 fluid ounces) in checked-in baggage on a plane per person. If the bottle is found with an exceeded quantity limit will be subject to confiscation by TSA officers and may result in denied transport for safety reasons.

Tip: Since cabin pressure used to be inconsistent due to temperature swings, and baggage handling generally feels rough, it may probably end up with leaking and broken containers. So, ensure to wrap your perfume bottles in bubble wrap, soft clothes, or socks before putting them in your luggage

What Type of Perfume Can You Bring on a Plane?

As per the current updates, TSA consider only certain fragrance categories as the best and most convenient items to carry on a plane. A few of them are highlighted below.

Solid Perfumes: If you want to avoid the effort of packing your scent, we suggest you go for compact, wax‑based, or balm‑style fragrances. Fenty Beauty, Diptyque, Glossier, Le Labo, and Tom Ford are some renowned perfume brands you should add to your bag to ensure mess-free packing.

Rollers / Roller Perfumes: This category of perfumes is small in size, which means it comes in a 3.4-ounce size. So it is not required to transfer to a 3.4 oz plastic atomizer. Apart from this, the best thing about this type of perfume is that it is compact and non-aerosol, so there is no risk of leakage during flight.
