You can make a booking with Flightairhub to confirm the baggage policy and determine how much your checked and carry-on luggage should weigh.

Moving on, the blog provides brief information on Qatar Airways' baggage policy. Here, we have discussed the baggage allowance for both checked and carry-on bags. Also, you will get to know about the excess baggage fee and policies in the special bag scenario. Read more to find out!

Allowance for Checked Baggage

The Qatar baggage policy is based on the Weight and Piece Concept for checked baggage. The maximum allowance is 2 bags of up to 23 kg each. So, instead of carrying a huge bag, you can pack your belongings into 2 small bags without worrying about excess baggage fees. But make sure you don’t neglect the Weight Concept and pack within the decided weight limit.

Allowance for Carry-On Bags

According to Qatar Airways' baggage policy, only Business and First Class passengers may carry 2 cabin bags. Economy passengers can bring only one carry-on bag. Each carry-on bag should be 50 x 37 x 25 cm. Also, the allowance policy suggests that passengers can carry 1 personal item in their carry-on bags.

The maximum dimensions for each carry-on bag are 50 x 37 x 25 cm. In addition to the standard carry-on allowance, passengers are also permitted one personal item.

Qatar Baggage Policy: Extra Baggage Fee

According to the Qatar Airways baggage policy, the extra baggage fee depends on the route’s regulations. If the route operates on the “Piece Concept”, the fee will differ. Vice versa for the “Weight Concept”. In the “Piece Concept”, the fee for an extra bag applies on a per-item basis. The extra baggage fee usually starts at $255 for items weighing up to 23 kg. It can reach up to $330 for heavy items of up to 32 kg. These are the standard rates for additional luggage presented at the check-in counter.

On the other hand, most international destinations follow the “Weight Concept” in their excess baggage policy. The fee is charged on a kg basis. Calculating how much teh bag weighs extra in kilograms, the fee is applied. Depending on your flight’s cabin class, you can get discounts on the extra baggage fee. But you have to declare the additional bag’s weight online at least 6 hours before your flight's departure.

Special Baggage Policy in Qatar Airways

The following are some special scenarios that require certain measures according to the Qatar Airways baggage policy:

When Flying with an Infant Below 2 Years of Age

If you are traveling with an infant under 2 years old, you don’t need to purchase a separate ticket for them. You can carry your infant on your lap without occupying another seat. The airlines allow you to carry one piece of checked luggage in such a case. According to the piece concept, the luggage should not exceed 23 kg (50 lb). Whereas, in the weight concept, it should be within 10 kg (22 lb). In addition, Qatar Airways allows you to carry either a car seat, a collapsible carrycot, or a baby stroller at no additional fee.

When Carrying a Musical Instrument in your Cabin Bag

Qatar Airways baggage policy allows passengers to carry small musical instruments in their carry-on bags. However, if the instrument is large and fragile, you must purchase an extra seat to place it. 75 kg (165 lb) is the maximum weight limit for allowing an instrument in a cabin bag, and 120 cm (48 in) is the maximum length allowed.

When the Bag’s Shape is Odd

If you are carrying an irregular or odd-looking bag, you must ensure that it meets the weight and size restrictions. It should not weigh more than 32 kg, and the dimensions should be 300 cm tops. In addition, these kinds of bags should be wrapped securely and sealed properly. Using a blanket or ropes to wrap the bag is not allowed under Qatar Airways' baggage policy.

When Carrying Any Sports Equipment

Sports equipment is usually allowed in checked baggage. As far as the airlines are concerned, the equipment must match the weight and size restrictions. The dimensions of small and medium equipment should not exceed 217 cm. On the contrary, for large equipment, this limit extends up to 300 cm.
